MONDAY LEAGUE RULES

HANOVER’S VOLLEYBALL

SEASON:

  • Each Season consists of 7 weeks of play followed by 1 playoff.

  • The league will be divided into 2 regular season pools (Court 1 and Court 2). The top four teams of each pool will make the playoffs.

Team/Players:

  • All Players must be at least 21 years of age.

  • Teams will consist of 4 players (at least 2 girls are needed). You can choose to have more on your roster in you so choose.

  • Any player that plays on more than one team, and their team makes the playoffs, must decide which team that they will play on and cannot switch. You will need to confirm your sub prior to the playoffs with the commissioners; so that it can be determined that it is an equal and fair sub. (See Sub section)

  • Teams must have at least 2 original players to play in the playoffs.

Waivers:

  • Every player and sub must sign a waiver either online or on paper and must be done prior to playing. This is for yours and the leagues protection. Waivers can be found on our website.

Weather:

  • Games may be canceled due to weather conditions, dangerous or unplayable field conditions, facility constraints, etc. We will not cancel games until absolutely necessary.

  • We will post on the Website, facebook and send out an email if the games will be cancelled.

  • If inclement weather develops during league play, we will attempt to contact those remaining teams scheduled to play that night. Depending on the time of cancellation, some teams will have to be notified on site.

  • If Games are cancelled, please follow the next weeks schedule. We will update the schedule and get it out to the teams as soon as possible.

Subs:

  • Subs need to be confirmed with the league commissioners before the game. We will determine if the sub’s playing ability is equal to the player.

  • We have a list of subs that will be able to sub, that we will be able to pull from. Sub will also need to sign a waiver as well.

  • If there are no subs available you may pick from within the league, but it will need to be confirmed with one of the commissioners and the other team.

  • Subs cannot be recruited nor switched for another after a match has begun. Meaning a team cannot get a sub after the first game is completed. If a team has a sub lined up, but they are running late, the team must notify the ref and the opposing team PRIOR to the first serve of the first game.

Game Time:

  • Games will start within 5 minutes of scheduled time unless there are unforeseen circumstances. This is to allow for warm-up and Rock/Paper/Scissors. If you would like more of a warm up please come early and warm up on the grass.

  • If a team is not on the court ready to play by 10 minutes after start time, they forfeit the first game.

  • If a team still cannot play by 20 minutes after start time, they forfeit the match.

  • Rock/Paper/Scissors will be played between the two captains to determine serve or side. Teams will rotate sides and serve after the completion of each game. Rock/Paper/Scissors will be played in the event of a 3rd game.

Refs:

  • We will be providing refs to the league and therefore your team will not be responsible to ref. The refs will enforce the league rules and will have final say.

  • Team Captains should be the only one to address the ref to contest a rule, after a discussion it will still be the ref’s decision.

  • Any situations which cannot be resolved through discussion between the ref and team captains will result in a replay. Please remember no one is perfect

  • We are all adults, please act like it. Unsportsmanlike behavior towards any opponent, referee, etc. WILL not be tolerated and may result in that player being ejected from the game. An ejection may result in further suspension from participation in current and / or future AFC activities. An ejected player(s) is required to leave the premises immediately – refusal to leave the premises may result in a team forfeit and /or increased length of suspension.

VOLLEYBALL FORFEIT:

  • Please send notifications of forfeits to one of the commissioners before 5pm on game day. This will allow us to contact the opposing team of the forfeit.

  • If a team does not have the minimum number of players by 10 minutes after the start time of the game and has not acquired a sub, the game will be considered forfeit and the opposing team will be awarded the win. If the team still does not possess enough players by 20 minutes after the beginning start time, the match will be considered forfeit and the opposing team will be awarded the match win.

Doubles/ Lifts:

  • Double hits are not allowed during basic play, such as when a player is returning a ball or setting it in the air for another player to hit over the net. If a player's hands aren't together when she hits the ball, for example, the referee might call a double it because one hand hit the ball before the other.

  • Under normal circumstances, a held ball or lift is one that remains in a player's hands for more than a moment or that is hit with an open-hand underhand. "The ball must be hit, not caught and/or thrown."
